College Student Program at Columbia University
The College Student Program offers group psychotherapy addressing addiction and co-occurring mental health disorders for young adults who have had to interrupt their education to obtain intensive treatment and for other students who continue their classes but who need a high level of structure and support.
The group-based setting incorporates proven therapeutic approaches such as relapse prevention and motivational interviewing techniques with the goal of abstinence and sobriety. Attendance at Alcoholics Anonymouse is strongly encouraged to extend an environment of sober social support. Toxicology testing occurs at least twice weekly to help monitor progress.
Additional skill groups such as dialectical behavioral therapy, social anxiety and cognitive-based groups for eating disorders are provided to address a wide range of psychological challenges. All patients simultaneously continue individual work with their referring clinicians.
Cost for services is on a private pay basis. Some college-based insurance plans may be accepted. Visit Columbia's website for more information.
